Behold this magnificent restored Herman Miller dining set from the father of American Modernism, Mr. George Nelson. The combed oak table exemplifies the kind of beautiful functionality that made Mr. Nelson so revered; it is actually three dining tables in one, with two buried butterfly leaves that transform it elegantly from a compact set for everyday use into a larger table for six, or again for eight (or even ten) people. It is an engineering feat. The table has been meticulously restored in the original color, which includes a very time-consuming hand-rubbed tung oil finish. The four iconic solid maple dining chairs have clean square lines juxtaposed with curvaceous A-line legs and were restored where needed. The wood of the chairs retains the original finish, in remarkably good condition; the seat-back caning has been professionally redone; the rich and comfortable upholstery is all new, employing the highest-quality foam wrapped in Dacron, and top grain cowhide leather in a rich marbleized brown that perfectly compliments the golden wheat finish of the wood. Signed with foil label, circa 1950. Why buy new when you can buy better than new? This gorgeous dining set has beauty, functionality and an extremely impressive pedigree.
