Jere birds defined the mid-century modern bird genre—or you might say, created it entirely. This signed piece, from 1968, was created not long after artists Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels combined their talents to create the C. Jere name, for their company Artisan House, in 1963, in order to create “gallery quality work for the masses”. A quintessential sculpture, it features an abstract bird taking flight off a hunk of unpolished pink marble. There are some chips to the base that are congruent with the look of the piece overall. Condition is quite good. Heavy, impressive.
