This is a gorgeous piece of functional sculpture, a wood and glass barograph, which is an instrument that makes a continuous recording of atmospheric pressure. Invented in the 1760s, this technology was used well into the 20th century, until computers finally took over the functionality at weather centers, etc. But what a shame, because no computer ever looked this good on a shelf!

This barometer works! But chances are, you'll just want to look at it.
